If you’re new to Albuquerque or even if you’ve lived here for years, you know the best weekends happen when you get out and explore. One of the reasons so many people fall in love with living in Albuquerque is the easy access to nature, food, culture, and charming nearby towns.

Within an hour or two of the city, you can hike mountain trails, sip wine, explore historic villages, or eat some of the best New Mexican food in the state.

Here are easy weekend itineraries around Albuquerque that locals truly recommend.

Sandia Mountains Adventure Day

If you want a classic Albuquerque outdoor experience, head to the Sandia Mountains just minutes from the city.

Morning

~ Start your day with a scenic ride on the Sandia Peak Tramway, one of the longest aerial tramways in North America. The ride takes you to the top of the mountains where you’ll get sweeping views of the entire Rio Grande Valley.

Afternoon

~ After taking in the views, hike one of the trails around the crest or drive the Sandia Crest Scenic Byway. Locals love stopping at Ten 3 for lunch or a drink with a view.

Evening

~ On the way back down the mountain, stop in Tijeras or return to Albuquerque for dinner.

Local tip: Go around sunset—the view when the mountains turn watermelon pink is where the Sandias got their name.

Wine Tasting in Corrales

Just minutes from Albuquerque, the charming village of Corrales feels like stepping into a slower, more peaceful version of New Mexico.

Morning

~ Start with breakfast or coffee at Village Pizza, a casual local favorite.

Midday

Historic Charm in Old Town Albuquerque
